Star Wars: In Concert - A Unique, Live Multi-Media Event

From StarWars.com:

“Star Wars: In Concert, a unique multi-media event featuring music from all six of John Williams’ epic Star Wars scores, begins its worldwide arena tour on October 1, 2009 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Narrated live by Anthony Daniels (the actor who portrayed C-3PO in all six films), the production features a full symphony orchestra and choir, accompanied by specially edited footage from the films displayed on a three-story-tall, high-definition LED super-screen — one of the largest ever put on tour. The live music and film elements are synchronized in order to create a full multi-media, one-of-kind Star Wars experience.” [end quote]

A very quick, simple, yet insightful interview with Kid Cudi. Make sure you simply "listen".

Karmaloop produced probably some of the best interviews in the music game. They use two cameras, ask really solid questions, and cut up the interview to focus just on 2-3 minutes of solid content. One day OL will help publish similar interviews with obnoxious emcees and artists.

What I liked most: Kid Cudi at the very end told people and kids to “listen”. Just “listen”. Don’t judge and make comments without first zoning out and just listening. Music is a medium and to let it be a vessel, you must just listen.

Wise words from a very wise emcee and producer.

As I might have mentioned in a few twitter posts, I got the chance to see the first showcase that Reflection Eternal put together in over 9 years. Though I’m sure Kweli + Hitek performed together on a few tracks or shows, they hadn’t done as the group Reflection Eternal since the late 90’s.

The duo is officially back together and heavily promoting their upcoming release. They’ve been performing in numerous locations since Blue Note Jazz in NYC in early March. Now we got to catch of glimpse of what they’re planning in this interview.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Now here’s another one of those unique hip hop music videos entitled Entrepreneur. Prophetic kept it simple by using his lyrical content for the platform of his story. He takes us through his day with actual places + people he comes across. Not fake, not overdone - just real. If you have a track that has simple production and a story, why not keep it simple and just very real? There is no bonus to overproducing the video with effects or showing a life that’s not really yours.

I liked that track too. Love lyrics over a simple jazz/soul beat. Thx, prophpeezy

Music videos in hip hop are all the same. Except the very rare ones created by artists like Yeezy.

Now this is an oldie (was shown back in February ‘09), but I bring it up because it’s so creative. Kanye rarely does his music videos with a whole bunch of hofessionals. He chooses to take inspiration from outside artists and video producers to create something unique to hip hop. It’s not necessarily unique to the whole media industry, but just to hip hip.

Quick Advice: Look what works really well in outside industries / markets. Then see if you can apply it to your style of art with a slightly different spin. Most people don’t just come up with a unique idea. They just steal it from others!

YouTube is conducting auditions for a one time live internet collaboration. I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened already.

First of all, this just shows how little I actually surf the internet… YouTube has a blog? Second of all, this article is pretty interesting. From what I can tell, this is similar to what Indaba Music does, except these are auditions for a one time live internet collaboration.

You can now cast your votes for your favorite musicians auditioning for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, the world’s first collaborative online orchestra and summit. Anyone can vote on the 200 semi-finalists through February 22, 2009.

I perused the “unique” performances and found a couple interesting auditions. I liked the cellist because she was very good with incorporating both rhythm and melody, and I was particularly amazed by the harmonica player. Not that I’d want to listen to that clip more than a couple times, but I’ve never heard a harmonica played that well. The whistler is good… but it’s also just funny.

Vudoo Soul helps promote a groundbreaking movie Owl and The Sparrow in a duet with beautiful Nhu Loan. The movie itself looks very dope and seems to be getting some good reviews already by the SF Chronicles. I haven’t seen Vu really do many things like this. But the video is dope and the woman he’s with, Nhu Loan, sound amazing. Looks amazing too :->

Part of my daily procrastination schedule is watching the latest episode of the Colbert Report, and it just so happens the interview in last night’s episode was with Dan Zaccagnino from Indaba Music. He is the co-founder the company, which is an online community for musicians to create music from various locations around the globe.

Indaba is a Zulu word that invokes the spirit of collaboration and community. It refers to a gathering or a forum for sharing ideas, and it embodies concepts that are central to the mission of Indaba Music.

I actually hadn’t heard of this site until now, but I look forward to finding out more about this community. From what I saw on Colbert’s interview with Dan, it looks pretty interesting.

I'm not sure if I'm more surprised that someone was urinated on at a Metallica concert or that there was an incident with a drunk Massachusetts cop making the news.

Now here’s an article close to my heart, but I’m not sure if I’m more surprised that someone was urinated on at a Metallica concert or that there was an incident with a drunk Massachusetts cop making the news. It’s true, why do you think this article is from the Cape Cod Times and not a Boston paper? (hint: it’s not news). There are just so many things wrong with the following statement:

A Brewster police officer [Joseph Houston] is on paid administrative leave after allegedly urinating on a fellow music-lover at a Metallica concert in Boston and then refusing to leave TD Banknorth Garden when security guards ejected him for disorderly conduct.
- Cape Cod Online

Fellow music-lover? Let’s be serious here, this is a Metallica concert. Furthermore, the Garden is a large indoor stadium with plenty of bathrooms, as far as I remember. Therefore, this is urination with intent. Clearly, this cop was about to go on a serial urination on every supposed music-lover.
