Black Presidents
Now that elections have passed and we got our very first black and socially conscious president (woo hoo!) to take office on January 20th, 2009, let’s get prepared to elect another one once Obama’s term is over.
Evolver | John Legend
Legend is not the typical R&B / soul artist. His lyrical content is much heavier, his voice is a little deeper, and he looks extremely comfortable behind the keys rather than dancing on stage. His latest album Evolver (2008) hit the market a few weeks before the presidential election, and he was still able to have large success. I attribute it to John Legend’s ability to stay unique while maintaining who he is through his lyrics and vocal strength.
1000 Yard Stare | Double Drive
This post comes nearly 10 years late, but that hasn’t stopped me from promoting a great album before. I guess you’d call Double Drive post-grunge, but it just seems like rock to me. Double Drive has been part of my collection since early high school, but for some reason they never made it big over the years. I don’t know if they ever got any radio play, but perhaps you caught them touring with bands such as Sevendust, Queensryche, Megadeth, and others.
